Guardia Bermellón is a Chilean Redskin band with Punk and Oi! influences, members of the proletarian Rock musical movement. The themes of their songs are influenced by the communist ideology and the political and social contingency in Chile and Latin America. Currently Guardia Bermellón is a band that has four albums as well as collaborations in different compilations.
History
The band was born at the end of 2006 in Santiago de Chile when all the members were part of the RASH movement (acronym for Red & Anarchist Skin Heads). In the same period they started to play in circuits of Oi!, Hardcore, Ska and Punk bands in the capital. From their first live performances they begin to play songs in whose lyrics expose a marked criticism towards the capitalist model as well as an exaltation towards communism influenced by Redskin bands such as Banda Bassotti, Núcleo Terco, Opció k-95, Negu Gorriak, Kortatu, among others.
They recorded a first homonymous demo of four songs in 2007. Then they would extract a live album from the presentation at the local Piraña Rock on Saturday, March 8, 2008 for a festival of Antifascismo. The first full-length album of ten songs entitled El Motor de La Historia was released in 2010 and is the one that gives them some international notoriety. Their most recent work is the EP entitled Nuestro Deber which contains four promotional tracks and was released in December 2011.
Guardia Bermellón has shared the stage with renowned bands such as Juana Fe, Chico Trujillo, Curasbún Oi!, Banda Conmoción, Salvaje Decibel, Fiskales Ad-Hok in different festivals in support of causes such as the Mapuche Conflict, Political Prisoners and the Student Mobilization in Chile in 2011-2012 among others.
The band has shown open support for campaigns in favor of Manuel Perez Martinez, aka Comrade Arenas and Ahmad Sa’adat. The band also aroused the interest of the German-Dominican writer and artist Yves Drube (El Patrón: Höllische Seilschaften im Paradies – 2009) who interviewed them for the left-wing German newspaper Linke Zeitung.
