Geisha DO still exist! You can find them in Tokyo as well as other cities, but I’ll be speaking about the main Geisha we know today — Kyoto Geisha. It may be a little hard to think about it this way, but being a Geisha is a career.

Do Japanese geishas still exist?

Today there are only about 1,000 geisha in Japan. They can be found in several major cities including Tokyo, and Kanazawa but most of them work in Kyoto. They are often attending gatherings at tea houses and ryoutei —a kind of luxurious Japanese restaurant.
