How do you identify ancient pottery?
The bottom of authentic pottery will usually have an unglazed area, which lets you know what kind of clay was used to construct the piece. If this is old weathered, it is more likely that your piece is authentic, as a faux one will ordinarily be much newer and therefore less worn.
How can you identify ceramics?

- Ceramics are resistant to corrosion.
- They can withstand very high temperature e.g. furnace and oven.
- They are electrically resistant.
- They are usually hard and strong.
- They have compressive strength.
- They can easily be molded when wet.
- They can easily break when dropped on the ground.
How has pottery changed over time?
In Midevil times, pottery was very plain. Later, in the Roman times, pottery became elaborately decorated. In the midevil period, pottery was again very plain. Finally, in the Victorian age pottery again became elaborate.
