When did Canada stop being a British colony?
In 1867, four British colonies (Quebec, Nova Scotia, Ontario, & New Brunswick) joined together as the “Dominion of Canada” and became a self-governing state within the British Empire. More British territories were transferred to Canadian governance from 1870-1940s.
When did France stop being a great power?
France remained catholic following the conversion of the French king, whereas half of the Low Countries were lost to Protestantism. It was the 30 years war that ultimately ended the status of the Papacy as a great power.
Does Canada have the potential to become a superpower?
Economic powerhouse
In some ways Canada is already a superpower. Its economic output is the eighth largest in the world. The seven countries with larger economies have bigger populations than Canada.
