José de los Santos Mauricio Moreno (Santo Domingo, November 1, 1957- September 6, 2019. He was a Dominican all-around player who played in Major League Baseball. During three seasons in the Major Leagues between 1980 and 1982 he played for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Biography
Although Moreno played in 82 games in his Major League career, he occupied both the second base and right fielder positions. Most of his appearances were as a pinch hitter, and some as a pinch runner.
After his playing career, Moreno continued to work in baseball. In 2007, Moreno was manager of the Seattle Mariners in the Arizona Fall League winning the league championship that year.
In 2008, Moreno was named manager of the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League.
On January 13, 2009, he was named manager of the Peoria Mariners and after the 2009 season, he was again named manager of the Everett AquaSox for a short stint.
On December 9, 2010, he was named manager of the High Desert Mavericks for the 2011 season.
He also worked in the Venezuelan League as third base coach for the Cardenales de Lara.
He passed away on September 6, 2019 at the age of 61 at the Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo.
